CNC
routing SERVICES
DIVISION delivers precision CNC routing for prototypes, custom parts, signage, and architectural-scale fabrication. Our Brooklyn shop handles wood, plastics, and foam with fine detail, variable-depth carving, and clean edge finishes—ideal for one-offs through large production runs with fast turnarounds.
-
CNC routing is a precise, CAD-driven method of cutting shapes from sheet materials. While the router moves in X, Y, and Z simultaneously, most operations cut in the XY plane for clean outlines at a given thickness. We routinely achieve fine detail using bits as small as 1/16” diameter.
-
Beyond cutting through materials, we carve pockets and reliefs at variable depths. Step-downs can be right-angle or smoothly contoured in Z while moving in XY, enabling 2.5D/3D relief work for signage, sculptural elements, and panels. Our machine has over 10" of Z clearance for a wide range of depths.
-
We can rout and paint-fill etched graphics for high-contrast branding and wayfinding. Two-tone laminates are available where removing the top color reveals a second color beneath.
-
With varied bit profiles and parameters, we produce complete parts and sculptural components: countersinks, threaded holes, roundovers, slots, and more. We can help you design for precise fits with hardware and connectors.
CUTTING TYPES
CAPABILITIES + TOLERANCES
-
Our industrial grade machine is 5’x10’+, accommodating most any full sheet formats. Oversized splicing is available by request.
-
Feeds, speeds, and tooling are fine tuned per material through experience for consistently clean edges.
-
We can utilize bits as small as 1/16” diameter when specified. Plan for inside radii to be rounded or design in dogbones for tight fitting joints.
-
Our digital servo guided machine delivers exceptional production consistency for multi‑part assemblies.
file requirements
For profile cutting, provide vector paths. Accepted formats: .dwg, .dxf, .ai, .eps, .3dm (Rhino), etc.
Raster images must be converted to vectors for quoting.
Surface/relief routing typically requires a 3D model (STEP/STL/Rhino, etc.). Simple pocketed depths can be called out in 2D with labeled layers.
Separate layers for cut, pocket, and etch; avoid duplicate/overlapping paths.
Avoid features smaller than tool diameter; tabs may be needed.
Provide nesting with adequate spacing for bit diameter and hold‑down. (Typically min .65”; .5” from edge of sheet.)
Include material, thickness, quantity, deadline, and finishing notes when submitting for quote.
why division?
Architectural roots: we translate design intent into buildable, precise outcomes.
Precision at scale: from one‑offs and prototypes to production runs.
Material versatility: wood, plastics, foam; paint‑fill and two‑tone effects in‑house.
NYC speed: Brooklyn‑based with responsive quoting and the fastest turnarounds.
process + turnaround
-
Upload prepared files for feedback and quoting. Vector drawings required for cutting; 3D models for relief where applicable.
-
We source most materials; specialty materials may need to be customer‑supplied. See materials pages for options.
-
Estimates based on material, complexity, and machine time.
-
We run the job after approval and notify you for pickup/delivery; pay online.
Typical turnaround: 5–7 business days
Large runs: 7–14 business days
Rush options available; lead times confirmed at quote.

USE CASES
Architectural Fabrication: panels, feature walls, millwork components
Signage & Branding: routed letters, relief logos, two‑tone plates
Product & Set Design: fixtures, jigs, props, scenic elements
Art + Installations: relief carvings, sculptural components
Custom parts: templates, forms, brackets
CNC MATERIALS
While wood and plastic are most common, our router is powerful enough to cut through many non-ferrous metals and many other very hard materials. Please inquire about additional materials not listed below.
+ Finish Face Grading Standards
Baltic Birch Plywood is graded with a face and back grade designation.
B/BB: Single piece face and back veneer. Face veneers are considered clear and free of defects with a light-uniform color. The back allows 3-6 color-matched patches, which are oval in shape and egg-sized. Inner cores are solid birch single piece veneers.
BB/BB: Single piece face and back. Both face and back veneers allow 3-6 small color-matched patches on average and some light mineral streaks. Tight pin knots may be present. Inner cores are solid single piece veneers.
BB/CP: Single piece face and back. The “CP” back veneers are downgraded from “BB” grade veneers, which allow for unlimited patches and sound knots, but does not allow for open defects. Inner cores are solid birch single piece veneers.
CP/CP: Single piece face and back. Face and back grade veneers allow unlimited sound knots and repaired splits and unlimited patches. The panel is sounding both sides and designed for laminating.
C/C: Patches, open knots, and small veneer splits allowed. Veneer lap and small core voids permitted. This panel is not sanded and would be used for structural purposes.
SHOP GRADES: Panels allow for 1-3 splits on the face veneer along one edge of the panel in lengths no longer than 10” and no wider than ¼”.

+ Plywood Core Types
Hardwood plywood cores are the layers between the hardwood or decorative softwood face and back veneers. The core of the panel will influence the properties of the plywood panels such as water resistance, stability, strength, flatness, screw holding ability, weight, and cost. Click here for more info.
+ What is FSC Certification?
FSC certification ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits. Click here for more info.
